In order to qualify for this grant you will have to upgrade your existing gas boiler to a high efficiency, band A - rated boiler of 90% efficiency or more, plus a digital 7-day programmer for time and temperature control along with a boiler interlock arrangement to prevent boiler operation when heating demand drops off, this would usually involve fitting a room thermostat. With this arrangement you may be intitled to a grant of €200 **
To qualify for the full €700 (€200 plus €500) ** you will have to install the above plus upgrade your heating controls by dividing them into 2 zones consisting of space and water heating - both should be controlled independently of each other, plus time and temperature control of your electric immersion heater and one other zone or 3 thermostatic radiator valves (TRV's) in rooms that do not have room thermostats fitted.
An estimated price for this upgrade work would be -
- A-rated high efficiency 20kw gas boiler
- 7-day digital timeclock/programmer
- separating of pipework for the different zones (may not have to be done on all systems, reducing the cost)
- zoned heating system - upstairs/downstairs (2 zones)
- room thermostats
- motorised valves to control zones
- hot water temperature control (1 zone)
- immersion switch timer
- all electrical work
- taking up floorboards/carpets etc.
- plus making good afterwards of wall/floor chases etc.

SEI state that your first application must be for more than €500 so in the above situation, if its your first application you will have to upgrade your heating controls as well as your boiler.
